First, you have to take some time to reflect on what happened in 2016 before you can make 2017 your best year yet.
2016. What a year! for some it was an awesome year full of success, wins, and amazing experiences, for others, not so great; it was a year of disappointment, upset and turmoil. Whether you saw last year as a “good” or “bad” year, (which by the way everyone has some amazing wins as well as some not so positive events, it all about the lens in which we look at our lives), the most important thing to do is to actually reflect on what happened in 2016.
Now is the time to sit back and ask yourself some powerful questions and to be honest with yourself about what you learned, what you would do differently and whom you’ve become in the last year. If you truly want to make 2017 your best year ever, you first have to begin by doing a mental inventory of how last year went down in your history books.
There is power in self-reflection, most people don’t understand how powerful it is, however, highly successful people are constantly reflecting on conversations, events, re-evaluating business decisions and partnerships, deeply thinking about whom they are and whom they want to become and so much more. They make self-reflection a part of their daily or weekly habits and because of it, they are able to achieve amazing things in their lives.
You are probably thinking, ” ok Danny get to the good stuff”, here it is…Anyone can do it!
It takes minimal effort to sit down and write out your powerful questions; very little effort. However, it takes alot of energy and discipline to think and answer the questions honestly and even more, effort to take what you learn and use it to make your life better.
Ah, Whoop there it is!
There’s the thing that makes self-reflection go from super easy to super honest.
We live in a time when most of us breeze through life, we have great experiences and very challenging ones yet we rarely devote the time to reflect on what happened, our actions and mindset, what we learned, and how we can move closer to living the life we want. To unlock or tap into a higher state of self, you must begin with reflecting on where you have been, where you are, and where you want to go.
If you truly want 2017 to be your best year ever; and let me tell you, it can very well be an a amazing year for you if you believe it is possible, you must first take some time to think about last year. You also have to raise your standards.
I remember attending a Tony Robbins event speak awhile and he said something that resonated with me, he said,
“When you raise your standards and turn “should” into “must,” you are making an inner shift to take control over the quality of your life. Any area you are not getting what you want is because you haven’t raised your standards.”
If you truly want to make this year your best year ever, you must raise your standards. The goals, the life, the vision you have for your life must be elevated. You must change your “should” to a “must”. When you set a vision for your life and you know that you “must” do the small actions that lead to the big change, you are more likely to take small steps and think about your goals every day.
Your mission for 2017 should be to turn your “should” to a “must” and take small steps every day to get you what you want. The first step is to complete this guide, I mean really put the time in to sit and think about what happened last year. If you can commit to that, you are proving to yourself that you want more for 2017 and you are starting with raised standards.
Grab a pen and paper and write these questions down.
